Taylor Swift: Why Can We Eat Salad, But Not Grass?

Calling all hospitals! A new doctor just arrived in town! Taylor Swift is now Dr. Taylor Swift! Not a doctor to save lives, but her songs can still do the same. Let's be honest (psst! We're still waiting for the rest of the TVs).

Swift filmed a TikTok in which she dressed in NYU's signature purple color. "Wearing a cap and gown for the very first time," the caption says.

On the 18th of May 2022, the singer-songwriter received her honorary degree as a Doctor of Fine Arts at NYU. The graduation took place at Yankee Stadium. Swift delivered a commencement speech to the Class of 2022.

An honorary degree, sometimes a doctorate, is an achievement linked to a special field. In this case, it is no surprise that Swift received such an award with 15 years of experience. She started in 2006 and is still active in her career. She is currently on the go with rerecording her old masters. Her latest re-recording album, Red (Taylor's Version), is up on all music platforms.

“I’m 90% sure that the reason I’m here is because I have a song called ‘22.” Swift joked around during her commencement speech.

According to her, she never got the chance to enter college. Her career took off at a young age, and to say the least, it was hard to mix education and career, or so that was what most had thought. “I never got to have the normal college experience, per se,” the singer said. However, she did take the first years of High School at Hendersonville High School and then finished at Aaron Academy. She went on about how she finished her education, ”doing homeschool work on the floors of airport terminals. Then I went out on the road on a radio tour, which sounds incredibly glamorous but in reality, it consisted of a rental car, motels, and my mom and I pretending to have loud mother-daughter fights with each other during boarding so no one would want the empty seat between us on Southwest.”

The singer-songwriter also shared life hacks that she said she wished she knew when she was starting her career and navigation of life and everything that comes with it. One of them is; “Learn to live alongside cringe.” She added, “No matter how hard you try not being cringe, you will look back on your life and cringe retrospectively.” Here, she also said to never be ashamed of trying. “Effortlessness is a myth,” she added.

Elsewhere in her speech, Taylor said how “excruciatingly painful” it was for her to be publicly humiliated on a regular basis. Despite this, she also shared all the lessons and learnings she had that came with the losses. “Getting canceled on the internet and nearly losing my career gave me knowledge on all the different types of wine,” she mentioned.

A motivating thing she learned is that mistakes can lead to the best things in life. She then mentioned her shortcomings in life and reassured her fellow graduates that the mistakes they make would not mean the end of the world.

Swift, nearing the ending of her speech, told the crowd that “Hard things will happen to us. We will recover.” The Doctor of Fine Arts and multi-award-winning musician will definitely continue to inspire youth and people starting a new chapter in life. After her speech, together with her more than 15 years of experience of having a public life, Dr. Taylor Alison Swift will surely continue to touch the hearts of the people, but now on a deeper level.

“Breathe in, breathe through, and breathe out,” and listen to our new doctor. Congratulations, graduates! “Let’s keep dancing like we’re the class of 2022” - Dr. Taylor Swift.
